Description

Join us for the second annual Marquette Trail 50 Ultramarathon. The course consists of a 32 mile loop (50k) with an 18 mile out and back for the 50 milers. The course is mostly single-track. Parts of the trail runs along Lake Superior. Most of the trail is easy to moderate running with a few significant climbs and technical areas. Unless it is raining, there in no place where you will need to get your shoes wet. This is an ultramarathon. Please show up well-trained and prepared to run the distance!

Location

Tourist Park, Marquette.  Picnic site #1.  Located on the north side of the City of Marquette near CR 550.  Camping available.  http://www.mqtcty.org/parks.html

Cut-Offs

50 mile runners who are not at the Forestville Aid Station by 1PM (about 27 miles) will be asked to switch to the 50k race.  50 milers MUST leave the Forestville Aid Station inbound by 12 hours (6:30 PM) and finish the race to be a confirmed finisher.

Registration and Bag Pick-up

Registration is online at Active.com or a form can be downloaded and printed.  Please see above on this page.  Bib pick-up will be on Friday, August 20 at Tourist Park at Picnic Site #1 5PM - 8PM.  This is on the north side of Tourist Park (easy to find).  Unfortunately, I have to announce there can be no refunds or transfers of registration.  We had 62 registered racers the first year.  This year, our second year, the limit is 80 registered runners.  Please sign up early.  After August 1, 2010, the price goes from $65 to $75.

Rules

Runners must travel the complete course.  No pacers allowed, either on foot or any other means.

Aid Stations

There are four aid stations (five aid stations for the 50 milers). One aid station serves two sections of the course. Please see the course description for more information. Please come prepared to carry enough water/food for the long legs! Our aid stations will be stocked with water, energy drink, fruits and other nutrition. We expect ultrarunners to be self-sufficient and able to run up to two hours without additional aid. Please do not leave gu wrappers or other garbage on the course! All aid stations are accessible by car except Crossroads.  There will be two additional unmanned aid stations on the course at about 14 miles, and on the 50 mile course out-and-back.

Bag Drops

Bags must be turned in by 6:00 AM race day. Please have them organized, secured and well marked. We are not responsible for lost or taken items.   I expect 50K runners to not need drop bags.  50M runners can have drop bags at 18M, 27/45M (Forestville Aid Station) and 37 miles at CR 510.

Awards

Dinner/cookout following the race will be provided. Awards will be for the first three finishers male and female in both the 50k and 50m races.  Awards will also be for Masters runners over age 40.  No double awards.  Commemorative shirts will be given to all racers who are registered.

Our Philosophy

This is a race put on by by myself and other athletes for ultrarunners.  My goal is to have a challenging well marked course with basic aid stations.   Have fun and enjoy the course!  Any proceeds will be donated to the Superiorland Ski Club and/or The Noquemanon Trail Network.

Results

Results will be posted on this website within 48 hours of the event.  Results will also be posted in Ultrarunning Magazine.
